eugene m. kim md: after patients have theircolon procedures, for example a colon resection, they will often ask what they can eat afterthey go home, how soon they can get back to resuming a regular diet and for the most part, for example, i will present an example after a patient of mine has a colon resection eitherfor colon cancer or even benign disease what i will tell them is by the time they leavethe hospital, they will be on minorly modified diet. we called a low fiber or low residuediet, so they will go home on that which is solid food and by the time, i see them inthe office, most of the time one to two weeks after the surgery, if they are doing wellat that time, i will tell them to transition back in to their regular diet including fiber, fruits, vegetables and resuming normal life.
in the end, they are only on a modified dietof a low fiber diet usually one to two weeks after surgery and then back to normal. for an interactive tool to learn more aboutyour colon cancer and your personalized treatment options, go to mycoloncancercoach.org.
